NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Artists are gearing up now for the spectacular annual autumn Open Studios to be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 17 & 18 from 10 to 6. During this event, artists open their studios, galleries open their doors and a variety of artists display their works throughout North Adams. Open Studios showcases a diversity of artwork, including paintings, printmaking, photography, graphic art, paper-making, weaving, pottery, and sculpture.

Artists, galleries, and businesses should register before May 30th to receive a discounted rate of $35 online at www.northadamsopenstudios.com. After this date, the registration rate returns to $45. Registered artists, galleries, and businesses will be able to place images and information on the Open Studios web site, which will be highlighted throughout their summer advertising. Already, advertising is being placed with national magazines and major regional cultural venues.

Last year was the best open studios ever, attracting over 2000 visitors visiting nearly 100 artists and many stores and galleries, including The Eclipse Mill, Heritage State Park, The Windsor Mill, Studio Works, The Kolok Gallery, NoAMA, and The Beaver Mill. In addition to sales of their artwork, many participating artists last year also made contacts during Open Studios for future exhibits, gallery representation, teaching opportunities, and commissioned work.

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
