NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ honor society for business administration, Delta Mu Delta, will honor Karen Zink, president, treasurer and chief operating officer for The Berkshire Gas Company, as an honorary member of the College’s chapter of the organization.

Zink, along with 15 MCLA students, will be inducted into the society on Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. in Murdock Hall conference room 218.

“Karen Zink’s leadership exemplifies the Delta Mu Delta motto of managing creatively for social and economic good,” said Nancy Ovitsky, chair of MCLA’s Department of Business Administration and Economics. “She also is a wonderful role model for students learning to balance work and family life, as she raised her family while she worked her way up the corporate ladder.”

Zink has been president of Berkshire Gas since 2004. With the company since 1981, she previously served as its vice president and general manager; as well as its vice president of marketing and resource planning; vice president; the director of rates, regulation and resource planning; manager of rates and planning; supervisor of planning; supervisor of financial services; and as a financial analyst.

Delta Mu Delta President Christopher Kennedy ’09 and the society’s secretary, Amanda Shakar ’09 will assist Ovitsky in conducting the ceremony.

Founded in 1913, Delta Mu Delta was established to recognize and reward superior scholastic achievement by students of business administration. MCLA’s chapter, Zeta Zeta, was established in 1992 and is one of 200 Delta Mu Delta chapters in colleges across the country. Membership requirements include that students earn at least a 3.25 grade point average and be of junior status.

Among other activities, Zink is a member of the Board of Directors of the Berkshire County Chamber of Commerce, where she also serves on the executive committee and as vice chairman for the Finance and Administration Committee. She is chair elect for 2009. She  also is a member of the Berkshire Business Roundtable, a group of executives in Berkshire County who discuss business issues impacting the business community.

Zink graduated cum laude from Central Connecticut State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance, and from Western New England College in 1997 with a Masters of Business Administration.
