Booth Reservations Now Being Accepted for 2009 Berkshire Home Expo

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Chamber of Commerce is now accepting reservations for booth space for the 2009 Berkshire Home Expo to be held March 13, 14, and 15 at the Berkshire Mall in Lanesboro. This event is sponsored by Berkshire Bank, TD Banknorth, The Berkshire Eagle, The North Adams Transcript, and Quality Printing Company.

More than fifty of the area’s leading businesses are expected to exhibit their wares and services at the upcoming show. The Home Show is a unique marketplace to shop, compare and save on a total selection of home-related products and services for building, remodeling, gardening and decorating and so much more. Then Berkshire Home Expo is the largest show of its kind in the Berkshires. Exhibitors will have access to the Berkshire Mall’s shopping traffic as well as consumers coming from all corners of the county looking for help from experts on ideas, exhibits and products for their homes.

The cost to participate is $399 for Berkshire Chamber members and $650 for non-members. The price includes an 8’ x 10’ booth with standard aluminum frame, back and side curtains and company signage.

The Berkshire Expo is open to the general public and show hours are 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM on Saturday, March 14 and 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 15. Admission is free.

Multiple Departments Respond to Lanesborough Structure Fire

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire off Narragansett Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Fire Department received a call from the owner of 6 Bangor St. reporting a smoke and flames at around 1:44 p.m.

Firefighters arriving on scene reported heavy smoke emanating from the the 1940s single-family ranch home in the thickly settle neighborhood.

The blaze was brought under control in less than an hour and there were no civilian or firefighter injuries. 

"The homeowner was outside doing some work, evidently, opened the door when she came back in the house, and there were flames and smoke, so she backed out and called us, and that's all we know right now," Deputy Fire Chief Glen Storie said around 2:35 p.m. 

The fire was out at that time, and first responders observed "quite a bit of damage" to the home. The cause is still under investigation. 

Lanesborough, Cheshire, and Pittsfield departments responded to the scene, and Hancock covered the station during the call. 

"The first crew in knocked the fire right down with the first engine," Storie said. 

Smoke could be seen coming from the back of the home. Part of Narragansett Avenue and Bangor Avenue were blocked off while firefighters battled the blaze.
