Special Valentine’s Day Doubleheader at Chapters Bookstore
04:45PM / Monday, February 02, 2009
The Hot Stove League Commences As Spring Kicks Off in the Birthplace of Baseball.
On Saturday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day, from 3:00PM to 5:00PM (or longer), Chapters Bookstore at 78 North Street in Pittsfield, MA will host a special “For The Love of Baseball” Doubleheader.
Nationally known baseball author and Berkshire resident Dan Valenti will be talking about his love for Pittsfield and the state of professional baseball with American Defender GM Jon Tosches. Dan will also be signing his newest book titled, Baseball Comes Home: The History of the Baseball Hall of Fame Game – 1940-2008. Jon will lead the Defenders in their inaugural season at historic Wahconah Park.
Baseball Comes Home, a 200+ page book, with over 150 photos, some never before seen, chronicles the 40-year history of the Baseball Hall of Fame Game that took place annually at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY. When MLB and the Hall of Fame announced that 2008 would be the last year for the Hall of Fame Game, Dan took up residence in the Hall of Fame’s archives and has delivered a book for the ages. It’s filled with descriptions of every game played, numerous anecdotes from Hall of Fame Game players and coaches, as well as all of the available Game line and box scores. He also discusses the cultural aspects of baseball’s place in American society.
