At the upcoming Martin Luther King Day celebration, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19 at the MCLA Church Street Center, two local women will be recognized as recipients of the Peacemaker Award. As we celebrate the life, principles, and ideals of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Peacemaker Award will be presented for acts of volunteerism above and beyond the typical good Samaritan.
Donna Denelli-Hess and Deborah Foss will receive this award for their exemplary volunteer work at the Nyumbani Children's Home in Kenya, at which all children are HIV positive and have lost their parents to AIDS. Donna and Deborah continue their work, now in the states as Volunteer Program Recruiters for Nyumbani, and Donna adopted her son, Ben, while working in Kenya.
Please join the community in celebrating Martin Luther King Day, and in recognizing these two special women for their extraordinary volunteer work on Monday, January 19 at MCLA's Church Street Center in North Adams. For more information about the event, please contact Carolyn Leab at the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, 663-7588.
