New Series Features Cutting-Edge Musical Compositions
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — "The Box: music by living composers" series presents the debut of I/O, a new music ensemble, on Friday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. on the CenterStage at the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance on the Williams College campus.This free event is open to the public but because of limited seating, tickets are required. Under the direction of the college department of music's Matthew Gold and Steven Bodner, I/O is comprised of Williams faculty and guest artists dedicated to performing the cutting-edge music being written today. I/O will serve as the "house band" for the Box series in addition to its performances in other venues during the year that also include significant works written in the last 100 years.
Its inaugural concert, "objects are closer than they appear" features "Entrelacs" by Yan Maresz, "Red Shift" by Lois V. Vierk, "Billie" by Jacob ter Veldhuis, "Sept Crimes de L'Amour" by Georges Aperghis, and "Colliding Objects: Interactions for Piano and Percussion" by David Kechley.
