North Adams Elks, Hoop Shoot Tournament
The North Adams Elks is holding the local Hoop Shoot Tournament at the North Adams Armory on Ashland St, North Adams, Saturday, Dec 27 at 4pm. Registration begins at 3:30 pm. There will be three age groups for each sex, starting at age 8-9, 10-11 and going up to age 12-13.More than three million boys and girls participate in these hoop shoots across the country. Last year two of the eighteen national finalist came from Western Massachusetts.
Trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category. Age groups are determined by what age they will be April 1, 2009. For example if the youth is eleven now, but will be twelve by April 1st, they will fall in the 12-13 age group. Free for all participants.
Girls and boys shoot from different hoops. All shooters first take fifteen shots and move to the back of the line. Then they take their final ten shots. In case of a tie breaker, additional shots are required until a winner is decided. Other simple rules are explained at the event on dribble count, foul line, noise, etc. Trophies are awarded at the end.
The top winners from the local hoop shoot move on to district. District winners move on to state and then to nationals. The National Hoop Shoot is held in Springfield, MA, the home of where basketball started. Hotel and a food stipend is covered for families travelling to the state hoop shoot since it is held near Boston. Please call Keith Bona at 664-0729 for additional information.
