Mill City Productions Holds Staged Reading02:55PM / Monday, December 08, 2008
North Adams, Mass. - Mill City Productions, a North Adams based community theatre is pleased to announce "A Christmas Memory" by Truman Capote as the December selection for their monthly play reading series. The dramatic reading of the classic story will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 4pm during the Williamstown Holiday Walk at the First Congregational Church in Williamstown.
Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted. The reading is directed by Liz Urban and features Marissa Carlson, Jackie DeGiorgis, Mike Grogan and Tim Mangun.
"A Christmas Memory" was written by Capote as a backward glance at his childhood while in college. The story traces a month of pre-Christmas doings in his parentless, poor household. The then seven-year-old and his "friend," a distant, eccentric cousin in her sixties prepare several dozen fruitcakes and mail them to people they admire. Gathering the pecans from those left behind in the harvest, buying illegally made whiskey for soaking the cakes, getting a little tipsy on the leftovers, cutting their own tree, and decorating it with homemade ornaments are some of the adventures the two share.
Mill City Productions is a non-profit, community-based, multigenerational collaborative focused on creating an outlet for expression and education for theatrical veterans and novices alike.
