NBH offers CPR classes - December 02, 2008
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Northern Berkshire Healthcare has scheduled two Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) classes in December. The first class is a Community Heartsaver Class on Saturday, December 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The second class is a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider class on Saturday, December 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This class is intended for healthcare professionals or students who need a Healthcare Provider level certification. Both classes are American Heart Association approved.
The classes will be held in the Education Classroom at North Adams Regional Hospital. To register, please call 413-664-5404.
Heartsaver AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) was designed to prepare a wide variety of people who want or need to learn CPR. Some of the reasons a person may want to be certified include a need to perform CPR in the workplace or similar setting, knowing how to use an AED, and knowing how to help someone who is choking.
Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider level is intended for healthcare professionals and students entering nursing, medical assistant, surgical technology and other medical fields. The course expands on the Heartsaver level and includes information on two-person rescuer CPR and rescue breathing.
Cardiac arrest can result from heart attack, drowning, electric shock, and other problems. Studies show that effective CPR, quickly administered, improves survival from cardiac arrest.
Staff from the REACH Community Health Foundation, a non-profit entity of Northern Berkshire Healthcare, have been certified by the American Heart Association to conduct the community classes. The class is approximately four hours long.
The course uses a “practice while watching” method. The student will be given a workbook that includes a CD prior to the class. The cost for the class is $40. The fee covers the cost of the student workbook and certification card.
Upon demonstration of the skills taught in the course, the student will receive a Heartsaver AED course completion card. For more information or to register for an upcoming CPR class, please call 413-664-5404. |
