Shop Local Online and On Site at Hancock Shaker Village
09:31AM / Wednesday, November 19, 2008
PITTSFIELD, Mass – Whether browsing its online store or visiting the shop on site, Hancock Shaker Village (HSV) has become a unique shopping destination, with plenty of local and handmade items for holiday gift giving.
HSV stocks a wide array of books, home décor, artwork, and Shaker-made or Shaker-inspired items ranging from furniture to soup mixes, all of which are available for purchase at the village and via its online store, found at hancockshakervillage.org. The Village Store is open daily. Hours are 10am to 4pm Monday through Saturday, and 12pm to 4pm on Sundays.
This year, HSV is also planning a number of programs in conjunction with sales of specific items, all of which reflect Shaker philosophy. Each event has been designed to offer one-of-a-kind, fun shopping experience.
Beginning in December, these events will include a Shaker Workshops furniture trunk sale on Dec. 6 and 7 with assembled and finished furniture at up to 50% off regular prices, and ‘Member Shopping Days’ from Dec. 1 to Dec. 14, offering a 20% discount on purchases to all Hancock Shaker Village Members.
All shoppers will also receive a free gift with their purchase, and those who spend $25 or more when shopping on site will receive a free copy of The Best of Shaker Cooking cookbook throughout the month of December. The Best of Shaker Cooking is a collection of authentic recipes from nineteenth century Shaker farm kitchens and was compiled by Hancock Shaker Village museum founder Amy Bess Miller.
In addition, food and cocoa samples will be made available daily in the HSV shop, and on weekends, the Village will offer soup tastings and samples of dessert recipes found in Best of Shaker Cooking.
Additional events:
Shaker Christmas carols to be performed on Saturday, Dec. 13
Question and answer session with Wittus Stove, regarding home-heating with a woodstove, on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Wine Tasting Saturday, Dec. 20 for new and renewed Members of Hancock Shaker Village.
