Yuck!
There's a winter storm warning in effect until 7 a.m. on Thursday with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected. Be prepared for a messy morning commute as freezing rain and sleet move through the region. The morning commute will be slippery — drive careful!

Some New York schools, including Hoosick Falls Central School and St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls have already canceled classes.

All North County schools are closed; Pittsfield, Lanesborough, Berkshire Hills, Southern Berkshire and Central Berkshire school districts are closed.
Duff'em If You've Got'em
North Adams Regional Hospital went smoke-free Monday — so did all its sister sites, from Sweet Brook to Northern Berkshire Family Practice to the Women's Exchange. No ashtrays, no smoking: No butts about it.

"Skraelings on the Road" Comes to Zeitgeist Pittsfield

- November 11, 2008

On Saturday, November 15, artist Robert Smith & a band of inspired beings arrive from Eastern Massachusetts to bring a very special art activity & exhibition to Zeitgeist Pittsfield.

They will be displaying some of their totem-like creations, called "Skraelings," and will bring along with materials for constructing more, with help from the public.

"Skraelings," from a Nordic word meaning "not of our tribe," are totem pole like constructions incorporating basic materials and found objects to create "inspired beings & garden protectors." Many previous Skraelings made by the group have been placed in private yards, community gardens, and along bike paths and other public places.

This event is free and open to the public, beginning around 11am with a gathering to begin construction. Anyone is welcome; feel free to bring intriguing objects of wood, metal, plastic or other materials.

Beginning around 4 PM, the Gallery will begin exhibiting some examples of previous Skraelings brought to Pittsfield for the weekend, along with some of the new constructions made that day. The Skraelings will be featured alongside the complimenting work of Jonathan Donahue, "collector of the transient, otherworldly, and fleetingly gorgeous" whose work evokes "emotions old and new, memories, fantasies, dreams."

What: "Skraelings Invasion" & Ian Donahue

When: Saturday, November 15, 2008. Making Skraelings begins 11 am. Skraelings on display beginning at 4 pm Saturday through Tuesday, November 18

Where:Zeitgeist Gallery, 648 North Street, Pittsfield, MA.
