SOMERVILLE, MA. - In their closest contest of the season, #1 Williams edged out conference opponent, Tufts, 1-0. The win upped the Ephs' overall record to a perfect 10-0, while Williams remains at the top of the conference standings with a 6-0 record. Tufts drops to 6-4 on the season, and are even in NESCAC competition with a 3-3 record.

The Jumbos have struggled in October, posting a 1-3 record after starting the season with undefeated play in September. After suffering a tough loss to Keene State in a 5-4 result last weekend, Tufts looked to bounce back. Playing the #1 squad in the country was a tall order to take as the Ephs defense proved impenetrable once again.

Despite the loss, Tufts held Williams to their lowest total of shots all season long and to their lowest number of goals scored in a single game. The Jumbos also managed to outshoot the Ephs 13-6; only the second Williams opponent to accomplish such a feat. Thirteen shots on goal are the most allowed by the Ephs defense all season as well.

The Williams offense may have been lacking in comparison to other games, but Sara Wild broke the scoring drought at the 37:21 mark off one of her signature boots. The lone goal proved to be all Williams needed to secure the victory. Although the Ephs defense allowed more shots on goal than usual, the Jumbos could never convert it on the scoreboard. Williams' goalkeeper Lauren Sinnenberg finally saw some challenges at net, and was credited with four saves on the day in 90:00 minutes of action.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building.

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu.

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building.

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns.

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot.

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
