Great Barrington — Wednesday, September 24th at 8:00 pm, at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, the Berkshire Playwrights Lab introduces a Fall season of staged readings with THE BOOK OF DAVID by Bob Clyman.

Clyman’s plays have been produced Off-Broadway and at regional theatres, such as Laguna Playhouse, San Jose Repertory Theatre, George Street Theatre, Denver Center Theatre, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Philadelphia Theatre Festival, Mill Mountain Theatre, Colony Studio Theatre and L.A. Theatre Works in addition to touring Scotland. Directing the reading is a long-time BPL associate Tom Bloom, frequently seen onstage at Williamstown Theatre Festival and recently in Cyrano on Broadway.

Included in the cast of THE BOOK OF DAVID is Jayne Atkinson (24), Kevin O’Rourke, Matthew Arkin, Lori Wilner, and Kate Levy.

About the play: “What If? Are there interrupted moments in your life which determined the person you are today? What if those moments had evolved differently? Would you dare revisit them? One man's attempt to revise a single pivotal choice in his past, creates an avalanche of effects on his present.” Says Joe Cacaci, co-Artistic Director, “We had wanted to do THE BOOK OF DAVID as part of the summer reading series, but, for a variety of reasons, we were just not able to make it happen. How fortunate that we had, not only an overwhelming demand to continue our series, but the support of sponsors to allow us to present readings into the Fall. ”

The Berkshire Playwrights Lab will feature a brief question and answer session with the playwright and director following the reading.

As always with the reading series, admission is FREE and open to the public. Information is available through the Mahaiwe Box Office: Hours: Tuesday thru Saturday 12noon – 6pm; 3 hrs prior to all show times - call 413-528-0100 - online at http://www.mahaiwe.org.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College Workforce and Community Education graduates were encouraged to be all they can be on Wednesday.

Graduates, families, friends, and staff gathered in Boland Theatre to celebrate around 100 graduates who completed a variety of courses.

They included community health worker, emergency medical technician, phlebotomy technician, registered behavior technician, AI fundamentals, Commercial Drivers License Class A and B, CompTIA Tech-plus, para educator, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

College President Ellen Kennedy said it was amazing that this might be her last public speaking event before her tenure comes to an end.

She acknowledged the diverse reasons for their studies including career advancement and personal growth, commending their vulnerability and dedication.

"Some of you explored AI, some of you improved your English speaking in really important ways, and the reason that each of you is here is because you decided to put your heart and soul to get vulnerable to do something that might have felt a little bit uncomfortable," she said. "And you did it, and we are so incredibly proud of you, and so happy to be here tonight, celebrating you."

Keynote speaker Shirley Edgerton, founder of Rites of Passage and Empowerment (ROPE) encouraged the graduates to reflect on their accomplishments and look forward to the future.
