BCC to Present Forum on Iran Trip - September 18, 2008
Berkshire Community College will present a forum program by Priscilla Fairbank and Barbara Spring, Thursday, Sept. 25 at 12:15 in room 111 of the college’s Koussevitzky Center.
Fairbank and Spring will speak about their December 2007 trip to Iran as citizen diplomats with the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR). FOR is an interfaith and international organization working to bring peace and reconciliation to areas of conflict. This was the fifth grassroots diplomacy delegation to Iran organized by FOR. The two women, along with 7 other members of the group, visited five cities over a two-week period.
Fairbank and Spring report that they spoke with ordinary Iranians in museums, parks, bazaars, restaurants, or on the street. The group toured mosques, shrines, museums, the magnificent Persepolis, the historic Imam Square in Esfahan, and the ancient city, Yazd.
Priscilla Fairbank, a member of Women Against War, Grannies for Pease, and Peace Action, is involved in local activities promoting peace. She is a tutor with Literacy Volunteers and spends several hours a week in the Burmese community in Rensselear. She is also a volunteer tutor at School 12 in Troy, New York, and at Robert C. Parker School.
Barbara Spring is active in the Capital District Women Against War and Grannies for Peace. She co-coordinates ARCH: Aging Resources, Consultation and Help, a resource network for New York Quakers. |
