NORTH ADAMS – North Adams Open Studios, a city-wide celebration of art, is accepting support from sponsors in the city and the greater region. The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, and Sunday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be an opening celebration on Friday, Oct.17, at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA).

The event is free and open to the public. Individual and business sponsors are invited to contribute to the success of this event by donating to Northern Berkshire Creative Arts, referencing North Adams Open Studios. Main Street is awash in galleries this year, all of which will participate in Open Studios. Open Studios provides an opportunity for North Adams artists to open their work spaces and invite the public to pass through, taking in the energy and creativity of a city that is increasingly defining itself as a cultural economic center. Large converted industrial spaces, including the Beaver Mill, Eclipse Mill, Windsor Mill, and NoAMA will be open to the public. Downtown storefronts and Heritage State Park also will participate.

In 2007, 86 regional artists participated and over 2,000 members of the public enjoyed their work. This was a 100 percent increase over 2006. This year’s event promises to be even larger and more comprehensive. The thousands of spectators expected to pass through this year’s event will be encouraged to spend time eating and shopping downtown, participating in the continued economic renaissance the region is experiencing. An enthusiastic volunteer committee of local artists, educators and business owners coordinates Open Studios.

The event also is supported by the Cultural Council of Northern Berkshire, a local agency which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, as well as by the City of North Adams and MASS MoCA. Sponsors to date include: Becks Printing; Coakley, Pierpan, Dolan & Collins Insurance Agency; Cup & Saucer; Inkberry; Dr. Gene Messenger, DMD; The Porches Inn; Photoworks; Charles Phykitt Insurance Agency; and Sue Walker and Steve Green. Restaurants and hotels that donate at a level of $75 or more will be listed in a dining and lodging guide on the NAOS Web site.

New North Adams Restaurant Approved for Liquor License

By Tammy DanielsiBerkshires Staff
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A new restaurant on Main Street, a provisions shop and a convenience store all got the nod from the License Commission on Tuesday.

Siblings Colleen and Sean Taylor are expanding their cuisine empire yet again with the establishment of Main & Mill in the old TD Bank. They were before the commission to apply for an all-alcohol license.

The building is owned by Ginko on Main Street LLC, which has granted 20 years exclusive possession of the property to Latent Builds as the developer. Jack and Suzy Wadsworth, behind Ginko, are development partners with Salvatore Perry and Karla Rothstein of Latent.

The bank closed in early 2021 and purchased by Ginko late that year. Plans for the property unveiled three years ago envisioned a restaurant, retail, a park and rooftop bar.

The building's hosted some pop-up eateries and is currently under construction for the new restaurant.

Colleen Taylor said the restaurant will be open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner, and be open early for coffee.

"It's not going to be a very big restaurant. It's about the same size as Trail House, except for Trail House has a bigger patio, so about the same seating," she said.
