Friday, June 13, 2008 Stanley’s 13 – Lions 2

Stanley’s scored 3 runs in the second, and 9 runs in the third along with great pitching from starter Anthony Duprat and Austin Milesi to secure a 13-2 win. Colby Gage and Chase LaBrie each scored to start the game giving Lions a two-run lead. Evan Lemire started Stanley’s scoring with a double and was driven in by Avery Hall. Then Austin Frederick drove in Jake Hall and Austin Milesi to make the score 3-2. Stanley’s second began with a Matt Carlow single, a walk, and Lemire’s second double. Hall doubled, Milesi singled, a Lions error and Duprat singled in Jake Hall. Frederick had his third RBI of the day with a single. Nick Bergeron singled home Frederick. Avery Hall and Milesi doubled in the third and Jake Hall singled as Stanley’s lead was 13-2. Milesi struck out four of the last five Lions batters to secure the win. As for the Lions, Chaise LaBrie had 2 hits and 1 RBI while teammate Colby Gage had a double.  Cody O’Neil took the loss on the mound.

Sunday, June 15, 2008 Val’s 16 – Lions 5

Val’s Variety pounded out 14 hits en route to a 16-5 victory over Lions. Matt Koperniak, Nate Tomkiewicz and Zach Curry each collected three hits with Koperniak and Tomkiewicz adding a double. Matt Waltermire was a big contributor, with two triples and 4 RBIs and Matt Burdick also drove in 2 runs with a pair of singles. Jerry McCarthy rounded out the hitting by getting his first Little League hit. On the mound, David Haley pitched 4 2/3 innings, striking out 8 batters to pick up the win. Shaun Knapp came on in relief and struck out the only batter he faced.  With the win, Val’s improves its record to 13-2.

Chaise LaBrie had another good night at the plate for the Lions with 2 hits, one being a double. Dan Butler had 1 hit and 2 RBI’s. Both Colby Gage and Jon Butler each had a hit. C.J. Lillie was the losing pitcher for the Lions.

Sunday, June 22, 2008 Elks 13 – Police 6


Joey Gwozdz was outstanding on the mound pitching a three hit shutout in the Elks 10-0 victory over Police. Derek Kogut led the well balanced hitting attack by the Elks with two hits. Also contributing to the cause were Sean Ryan-Kut, David Bailot, Zach Wright, Nolan Hayer, and Peter Barrow, all with key hits. Gwozdz moved to 4-1 on the season. Tyler Mach was the lone hitting star for Police going two for two and Ian Hill had the only other hit for police on the night. Tyler O’Neil took the loss for Police.   

Sunday, June 22, 2008 Co-op 13 – Lions 2

Dahandre Sistrunk, Cory Puccio and Ben Trimarchi combined on the mound for a 4 hitter to defeat Lions. Sistrunk pitched the win. Back from being side-lined with an injury, Puccio led the way for Co-op, going 3-5 with a double and 4 RBI's. Dillon Martins was close behind with 3 hits and 3 RBI's. Zach Albareda had 2 hits with 2 RBI's. Eric Sneizek and Sistrunk each has a hit and an RBI. Nick Kordana did hid lead off job well, scoring 4 runs. Nine year old Charlie Fury had his first Little League hit and scored a run. For the Lions, Colby Gage had 3 hits including 2 doubles. C.J. Lillie had a hit and a RBI. Chaise LaBrie had a hit and Aaron Holman-Vittone had a RBI. C.J. Lillie took the loss on the mound.

Sunday, June 22, 2008 Val’s 19 – Stanley’s 11

Matt Koperniak went 5 for 5, with a double, 5 RBIs, and 5 runs scored to lead Val’s Variety to a 19-11 win over Stanley’s Lumber. Koperniak is on fire, and now has a hit in his last 9 at-bats. Nate Tomkiewicz, Matt Burdick and Shaun Knapp each collected two hits in the 14-hit attack. Tomkiewicz had 3 RBIs and scored two runs, Knapp had two RBIs and 2 runs scored, while Burdick had an RBI double and scored three times. On the mound, Matt Waltermire put in a fine performance in relief of David Haley, striking out 6 batters in 22/3 innings and not allowing an earned run in picking up the win.

Cheshire Town Meeting Oks Budgets, Debates Potential Prop 2 1/2 Override

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Town meeting on Monday approved all 35 articles on the annual meeting warrant, including a total spending for fiscal 2027 of more than $8.5 million. 
 
Some 77 of the town's more than 2,500 registered voters filled the Cheshire Community House meeting room, debating on a number of articles during the meeting that lasted nearly three hours
 
The town dedicated its annual report to the Rev. William David Furey, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church and more recently Berkshire Union Chapel in Lanesborough. Furey died last year at age 77.
 
His wife, Anne Marie Furey, and his sister, Town Moderator Carol Francesconi, were presented with a bouquet of flowers in tribute to him. 
 
He was an exemplary member of the community who left a lasting impression in each and every life that he touched, said Town Clerk Whitney Flynn. 
 
Voters approved several warrant articles that make up an operating budget of $3,840,314 for fiscal 2027. Of this amount, $1,642,481 is allocated for the general government budget, which was approved after clarification of a few questions.
 
One item was the administrative assistant's salary. Prior to the annual meeting, the town eliminated the executive assistant salary of $54,309 in favor of a part-time administrative assistant salary of $27,155, to reduce costs considering the financial constraint the town is in.
