Four North Adams SteepleCats errors led to four unearned Sanford runs as the Mainers beat the SteepleCats 6-4.

After threatening in the first and second, the Mainers scored a pair of runs in the third on an RBI single from Will Greenberg and a sacrifice fly by Greg Hopkins to go up 2-0.

SteepleCats defense helped the Mainers in the fifth as a pair of North Adams errors plated three Sanford runs to make it 5-0. Another SteepleCats error wound up giving the Mainers another run in the seventh to make it 6-0.

North Adams started in on the comeback trail in the eighth. Pinch-hitting, Dayton Marze led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later, Brian Adams smacked a ground rule double to put Marze on third. Nick Shaw followed with a walk to load the bases. Greg Van Horn stepped in and lined a ball into left to score Marze and make it 6-1. After a pitching change, Tony Chisman ran a 2-2 count to Rob Noe before uncorking a wild pitch to score Adams and make it 6-2.

The SteepleCats were not done as Noe grounded a ball to shortstop for the second out of the inning, scoring Nick Shaw and moving Van Horn to third. Paul Hoilman stood in and blooped a double into right to bring home Van Horn to make it 6-4.

That was as close as the ‘Cats would get, however, as Tony Chisman shut the door to end the game.

Jason Bowman (2-1) picked up the win going seven strong for Sanford. Mitch Clegg (1-1) suffered the hard luck loss for North Adams. Chisman recorded his second save of the season.

The SteepleCats head out on the road for a pair of games at Danbury and at Torrington Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game is a noon start at Danbury and can be heard on the NECBL broadcast network.
