The Legacy Banks Foundation will fund Construct, to the “The Jordan House”

Pittsfield – The Legacy Banks Foundation will fund Construct, Inc. of Great Barrington to establish “The Jordan House,” a much needed housing alternative for homeless men with a family-style supportive environment. Established in 1969, during Johnson’s “War on Poverty” and in the wake of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther Kings, Construct Inc. was set up by a group of concerned citizens, clergy and members of the interfaith community. It aims to provide affordable and supportive housing services to people of very low to moderate income who are homeless in 17 south Berkshire towns.

The Jordan House will be a permanent supportive housing project for chronically homeless men who have successfully completed transitional programs for substance abuse and or mental health treatment and who can benefit from family-style living arrangements in a clean, sober, and supportive environment.  Purchased in November 2007, renovations of the 7-unit accommodation are anticipated to be completed by the end of 2008. Residents are able to move into the Main House now, but the Carriage Barn will not be ready until late summer.

Developed in response to requests from residents of Construct’s transitional shelter and the Berkshire County 10-year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness, The Jordan House is a model that can be duplicated readily in Central and North County for this very vulnerable population.

Last year Legacy Banks supported Construct Inc. with funding to mark the opening of its new branch office in Stockbridge. This year Legacy Banks is proud to further support this new important development giving vulnerable members of our community safe, clean and affordable housing. Richard Sullivan, president of The Legacy Banks Foundation, underscored Legacy Banks’ support for the project saying, “We are pleased to assist with funding this very important program, which will go a long way toward helping a disadvantaged segment of our community. We applaud Construct on their efforts with this project.”
