More Snow

The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend.

We have reports that the roads are very slippery to take care in the evening commute.
Duff'em If You've Got'em
North Adams Regional Hospital went smoke-free Monday — so did all its sister sites, from Sweet Brook to Northern Berkshire Family Practice to the Women's Exchange. No ashtrays, no smoking: No butts about it.

BCC to Offer Wine Workshops in South County

- February 12, 2008

PITTSFIELD - Wine connoisseurs, or adults simply wishing to learn more about wine, are invited to register for the following workshops offered this spring through Berkshire Community College. All classes meet Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at Grape Finds in Great Barrington.

  • "Old World/New World Wine" (WKS 472) shows students how to demystify hard-to-read wine labels using a bit of the old world (France, Italy) and the New World (U.S., Australia). This one-session class meets Feb. 21.

  • "Simply Red Wine" (WKS 481) explores the gamut from light and juicy to bold and ostentatious reds. Learn why, when it comes to red wine, bad soil makes good wine. The one-session class meets March 20.

  • "Say Cheese!" (WKS 623) offers cheese lovers guidelines to choose the perfect wine to complement a favorite cheese. The one-session class meets April 17.

  • "Food and Wine Made Fun" (WKS 474) explores the art of matching food and wine. Participants sample savory treats and tasty pours to help unravel the not-so-mysterious world of wine and food, and learn to pair the two like a pro. The class meets May 15.

For more information, or to register, visit BCC's South County Center at 343 Main St. in Great Barrington; or call 413-528-4521 or 800-816-1233 (in Mass. only), Ext. 450. Participants must be 21 years or older. A photo ID is required.
