More Snow
The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend.
We have reports that the roads are very slippery to take care in the evening commute. |

MCLA Dorm Damage Confined to BedroomStaff reports - February 07, 2008
NORTH ADAMS - A small fire on the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts campus on Wednesday night was extinguished promptly, thanks to two quick-thinking college students.
According to Public Safety Commissioner E. John Morocco, a small flame that engulfed a bookcase in a Flagg Townhouse bedroom was contained and put out quickly after dormitory roommates Tracey Martin and Matthew Anderson, both juniors, reacted to smoke alarms activated in the townhouse. Morocco said one of the students attempted to douse the flames with a bucket of water while the other ran upstairs to call 911. "They closed the door to the bedroom when they couldn't put the fire out, which was part of the reason it was so easy to put out," said Morocco on Thursday morning, noting that the North Adams Fire Department gave the students "many kudos." The call to the Fire Department came in at approximately 5:25 p.m.
A firefighter exiting the dorm (Townhouse 63 on Montana Street) on Wednesday night said, "It took one squirt and it was out." Though an official cause has yet to be determined, Morocco said the fire did not spread outside of the one downstairs bedroom and no one was in the apartment when firefighters arrived.
North Adams Fire Department, North Adams Police Department and the North Adams Ambulance Service responded. |
