MKL Celebration Slated at Lichtenstein Center

- January 09, 2008

PITTSFIELD — The Berkshire Museum will present its annual community celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts.

The event will feature a performance by Youth Alive step dancing and drumming troupe and readings from King's famed "I Have a Dream" speech. Guests will have the opportunity to sample soul foods and make pledges for peace and justice in their lives. Admission is $5 adults, $4 seniors, and $3 children ages 3-18 (members and children under 3 free).

The Lichtenstein Center is located at 28 Renne Ave. in downtown Pittsfield. Suggested parking is available at the corner of First and Fenn Streets and across from the Common, east of the United Methodist Church.

Youth Alive, a troupe of young dancers from Pittsfield, perform hip-hop, African, and modern dances using their bodies as musical instruments to create a mix of sounds through feet stomping, hand clapping, and body movement.

The Berkshire Museum is closed for renovation until March 28. The expanded museum shop will remain open at 31 South St. For more information, contact the museum at (413) 443-7171, Ext. 10, or visit www.berkshiremuseum.org
