Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ Office of Public Safety recently was awarded a Citizens Corps Program Competitive Equipment Grant through the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. MEMA will provide the College with 40 emergency equipment bags, six trauma first aid kits and 15 roles of caution tape.
“This is a huge step in developing our own Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program and will serve us well during critical incidents,†said MCLA Director of Public Safety Joseph Charon. Emergency equipment bags contain hardhats, goggles, gloves, a vest, a flashlight and basic tools. In the case of an emergency situation, these items would be used by members of CERT.
“The next phases will be to establish our CERT program, enlist College community members, and educate and train them as a resource to us during a critical incident,†Charon said.
