Teacher Workshop Features Science Performer - October 25, 2007
PITTSFIELD - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, in collaboration with Berkshire STEM Pipeline and the Colonial theater, is offering "Toying with Science," a workshop for K-12 teachers led by performer/scientist Garry Krinsky, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 3:30 p.m., at the theater.
The event is being presented as part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) science seminars offered this fall.
Since 1978, Krinsky has performed at thousands of schools, theaters and festivals, as well as on live television, including NBC's "Today Show." In 1995, Krinsky created his "Toying with Science" program and since has toured with the show across the United Stated and Canada.
"Garry is a very physical entertainer. His performance of 'Toying with Science' is a fast-paced, varied and dynamic program that has been met with rave reviews," said Lisa Provencher, STEM coordinator at MCLA.
Commissioned and developed with the Museum of Science in Boston, the workshop explores, among other things, the scientific principles of gravity, leverage, fulcrums and simple machines.
The Berkshire County Regional PreK-16 Network is funded through the Board of Higher Education’s STEM Pipeline Fund. The fund seeks to improve teacher preparation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects and to increase student interest in, preparation for and success in STEM careers.
The "Toying with Science" workshop is open to teachers of kindergarten through Grade 12. The cost is $35. Advance registration is required and capacity is limited. For more information or to sign up, contact Provencher at 413-662-5525 or at lisa.provencher@mcla.edu . For more information, go to www.mcla.edu/pipeline
