NORTH ADAMS — The Civil War is coming to the city in the form of the 10th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Re-enactors will be portraying how soldiers in the War Between the States lived during a two-day encampment at Natural Bridge State Park on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 to 5 and Sunday, Oct. 12, from 9 to 3.

Between 1861 and 1864, the 10th sacrificed more than 700 of its 1,000 members to death, wounds and disability. As part VI Corps of the Army of the Potomac, the 10th distinguished itself with its patriotic zeal and fighting ability. To honor the regiment's heroic deeds at battles like Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and Petersburg, the present-day 10th participates in living history events, parades, re-enactments and patriotic observances.

The 10th Regiment is chartered by the Massachusetts adjutant general as a heritage unit of the 104th Massachusetts National Guard, Blue-Gray Division. Many of its members were from Western Mass., including Great Barrington, Adams and Pittsfield.

The program is suitable for all ages and is handicapped accessible. A $2 parking fee will be charged per vehicle. The program is sponsored the the Department of Conservation and Recreation, Hoosac Bank and Jack's Hot Dogs. Call the park for more information at 413-663-6392.
