Mary C. Pilot, 82
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mary Catherine Pilot, 82, of 11 Hathaway St. died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Sweet Brook Care Centers after a short illness.
Born in North Adams on Oct. 7, 1929, daughter of James and Evelyn Higgins Gaffey, she attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1947. She later helped organize many of her class reunions.
Mrs. Pilot was employed by the former Boston Store on Main Street and its successor, the former England Brothers Department Store, until her retirement in 1985.
She was a communicant of St. John Bosco Church in Stamford, Vt. She was a member of the Garden Club and volunteered with the Compassionate Friends and North Adams Regional Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and knitting. Mrs. Pilot was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She and her husband, Edward W. Pilot, were married on Jan. 20, 1951.
Besides her husband of 61 years, she leaves two daughters, Karen Morris and her husband, Robert, of Bedford, N.H., and Lisa Mineau and her husband, Jeff, of North Adams; six grandchildren, Todd Pilot, Jeffrey Pilot, Kristen Haan and her husband, Erik, Emily Morris, Sarah LaBonte and Matthew LaBonte; two great-grandchildren, Emilie Raymond and Jaxson Pilot, and nieces and nephews.
Her son, Stephen Pilot; her daughter Susan Nevin; and her brother, William Gaffey, predeceased her.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Pilot will be celebrated Tuesday, June 26, at 11 a.m. from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
A calling time will be held Tuesday morning from 9 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. Memorial contributions are suggested for the North Adams Ambulance Service in care of the funeral home.
