Rufus W. Burdick, 84
FLORIDA, Mass. — Rufus W. Burdick, 84, of 23 Central Shaft Road died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at his home.
Born in Florida on March 13, 1928, a son of Harvey and Laura Hawes Burdick, he attended schools there and Drury High School in North Adams.
A decorated Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as a sergeant.
Mr. Burdick was employed for many years as a continuous-vulcanization (CV) operator at the former General Cable Co. in Williamstown.
He was a member of the North Adams American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and chopping wood.
His wife, the former Dorothy F. Johnson, whom he married May 22, 1953, in Florida, died Feb. 24, 1990.
He leaves three daughters, Fay Martin of Cheshire, Cynthia Smith and her husband, Paul, of Florida, and Lynn M. Burdick; a son, Brian W. Burdick and his wife, Bernadette, of North Adams; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his three sisters and six brothers, Dolly Viner, Nettie Mullett, Genevieve Grebb and Frank, Chester, Lyman, William, Robert and Ralph Burdick.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Graveside services for Mr. Burdick will take place Friday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at Church Cemetery, Florida.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 14, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, Mass. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home.
