Thomas F. Haggerty Jr., 88

ADAMS, Mass. — Thomas Francis Haggerty Jr., 88, of 16 Bieniek Ave. died on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Adams on May 3, 1924, son of Thomas F. Haggerty Sr. and Mary Montville Haggerty, he graduated from the former Adams High School with the class of 1942. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company E, 87th Infantry Regiment, and had volunteered for service with the 10th Mountain Division in the European theater, having seen heavy fighting in Italy. He was awarded the bronze star medal for his performance in combat and the Combat Infantryman's Badge, as well as several other decorations. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946. Mr. Haggerty was a supervisor of installation and repair for the former New England Telephone Co. for 38 years in North Adams, Pittsfield, Springfield and Northampton. He retired in December 1984. He was a communicant of the Parish of Blessed John Paul the Great, where he had served as an usher for many years. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a longtime member of the Forest Park Country Club, and was a past director and member of Post 160 American Legion. His wife, the former Jean A. Gingras, whom he married on Nov. 27, 1954, died on Oct.5, 1999. He leaves a daughter, Kathleen Goodrich and her husband, Allan, of Cheshire; a son, Thomas Haggerty and his wife, Marianne, of Adams; three grandchildren, Michael Haggerty of Adams, Terry Goodrich and his wife, MyLinh, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and Todd Goodrich and his wife, Terry, of Longmeadow; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Goodrich of Longmeadow, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret "Irish" Anthony. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Haggerty will be on Monday, June 4, at 9 a.m. from Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in the Parish Church of Blessed John Paul the Great. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 3, from 2 to 4 at the funeral home.
