Judge Charles R. Alberti Jr., 84

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Retired Superior Court Judge Charles Rosario Alberti Jr., 84, of North Hemlock Lane, died on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Pittsfield on June 15, 1927, son of Central Berkshire District Court Judge Charles R. Alberti Sr., a former district attorney, and Lucia Cavallaro Alberti, he graduated from Pittsfield High School and Deerfield Academy. He graduated from Williams College in 1950 and studied law at Columbia University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and later served in the Air Force Reserve. After receiving his law degree, Judge Alberti returned to Pittsfield, where he continued his father's law practice until the early 1960s, when the family moved to Lenox, where he had established a law office. He also served as Lenox town counsel for many years. He was appointed in 1972 a special justice of the Southern Berkshire District Court, hearing cases in Lee on a part-time basis, and became presiding justice two years later. He was appointed to the Superior Court in 1976. Following his retirement from the bench in August 1992, Judge Alberti maintained a busy work schedule as a professional mediator and as primary interviewer for the Williams College Oral History Project, which he joined in 1996. Throughout his life, he pursued a wide variety of interests including cooking, architecture, and American history, particularly the Civil War. He also enjoyed studying his Italian heritage and he took quiet pride in the accomplishments of his ancestors and his children and grandchildren. His wife, the former Mary Angela "Nan" Gualtieri of Rome, N.Y., whom he married July 12, 1952, died on May 15, 2009. He leaves his son, Charles Christopher Alberti and his wife, Susan Stark Alberti, of Beijing, China, and their son Samuel Alberti; two daughters, Lisa Alberti of New York City and her son, Carlos Alberti, and Sara Alberti of Rumford, R.I., and her daughter, Jennifer Alberti-Silverstein, and her daughter's father, Richard Silverstein; a brother-in-law, John Gualtieri and his wife, Maureen, of South Carolina, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Dear Christopher and family,

I'm sorry to have read about the death of your father. My dad Rosario has since passed on, would refer that he had relatives in Pittsfield, Mass and Chicago.

A few years back in traveling to Isnello Fatima/Eleanora Alberti gave me an information sheet with your dad's information. I tried to contact him years ago and wasn't able to make a good connection.

I would like to extend my families condolences to you. Also, if you or any of your family members would like to get together or are passing through Connectcut please you are welcome to stay over.

My father's brother's (Michael) son's (Joe, Long Island) daughter is also Lisa Alberti and lives in Westchester county with her husband Scott and children.

I'm not sure if this will reach you, but you we regret the death of your father.

Sincerely,
Biagio "Billy" Alberti
