Robert H. Beer, 90
FLORIDA, Mass. - Robert Harold Beer, 90, of 480 Mohawk Trail, Drury, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at his home, with his loving wife, the former Fay E. Poirot, by his side.
Born in North Adams on May 5, 1921, son of Harry and Estelle Phillips Beer, he attended local schools.
An Army combat veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific. He participated in campaigns in New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze service stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Mr. Beer worked for the former General Cable Co. and its predecessor, Cornish Wire Co., in Williamstown for 30 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Florida Baptist Church. He enjoyed oil painting, handiwork and animals. He had enjoyed hunting in his younger years.
Besides his wife, whom he married on July 14, 1951, in Florida Baptist Church, he leaves three sisters, Dorothy Bosley of North Adams, Nancy Tower of Adams and Marion Beer of Williamstown, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Virginia Thompson, Norman Beer and Ralph Beer.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Beer will be Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Florida Baptist Church. Burial will be in the spring in Church Cemetery.
