William R. Romeo, 85

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — William R. Romeo, 85, of East Avenue died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in North Adams on July 11, 1925, son of Raphael and Mary Folino Romeo, immigrants from Italy, he was a graduate of Drury High School and attended Bryant College in Rhode Island. A Navy veteran of World War II veteran, he served in the Invasion of Normandy and in the Pacific, and in the Korean War. Mr. Romeo had been proprietor of Romeo's Auto Repair in Willow Dell and Bill's Shoe Repair at one time. He was a communicant of the former St. Anthony's Church and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and a past member of the Elks, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He leaves his brother, Dr. Donald Romeo of East Dennis; nieces and nephews, William Romeo of Sudbury, Michael McNicholos of Shippensburg, Pa., Jill Di-Tommaso of Sandwich, Patricia Jammalo of Ashland and Rhonda Ouimet of Adams, and many grandnieces and -nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Ralph, Anthony, Francis, Mary and Kathryn Romeo, and Rose Ellison and Frances McNichols and Mary Romeo. Anyone who ever crossed Mr. Romeo's path either briefly or for a lifetime would be blessed by his incredible warm heart, his attentive ear and his unconditional wealth in caring, said family. He was a man of honor through and throughout. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and the dedicated staff at Sweet Brook and his spirit will live on in each and everyone that he has touched. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Romeo will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 10 to 10:30 prior to the funeral at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
