Rupert Lapier, 99
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Rupert Lapier, 99, of 1130 State Road, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.
Born in Hancock on Feb. 17, 1911, a son of William and Myra May Bradley Lapier, he attended schools in Hancock.
Mr. Lapier worked for Williams College as foreman in the carpentry shop until his retirement in 1976. He first worked as manager of Niles Dairy Farm in Hancock for many years before moving to Gainsville, Fla., where he worked for the University of Florida as a carpenter for 24 years. He returned to Williamstown in 1950.
In his retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter in the area. He was a member of the Williams College Retirees and the local carpenters union.
His first wife, the former Inez Eldora Courtot, whom he married July 15, 1936, died in 1974.
His wife, the former Ruth Laura Sheldon, whom he married Dec. 7, 1975, died in 2006.
He leaves a stepson, Douglas Baumann of California, and a stepdaughter Lee Beals of Dalton; grandchildren Jason Lapier, Darcy Lapier, Stephen Elder, Michael Elder, James Elder and Charles Elder Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, James E. Lapier in 1991; his brothers, Walter and Howard Lapier; his sister, Julia Rodda; and his stepson Charles Elder.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services will take place Friday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. at Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
