Richard A. Carlow, 67
CLARKSBURG, Mass. - Richard Arthur Carlow, 67, of 20 Henderson Road died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Brn in North Adams on June 25, 1942, a son of Elizabeth Shortmon Carlow and the late William Harold Carlow, he attended Houghton School in North Adams and Drury High School.
He served for six years in the Massachusetts National Guard after high school and was discharged in 1970.
Mr. Carlow operated gas service stations in the late 1980s, first Texaco stations, one in North Adams and one in Williamstown, and latter a Getty station in New Ashford. He retired from the former Commonwealth Sprague on Brown Street in North Adams in 1990. Before that, he was employed with the former Cornish Wire in Williamstown and its successors Carol Cable Corp. and General Cable Corp., until 1988.
He was a member of Stamford (Vt.) Community Church. He enjoyed restoring Model A antique Fords and going to Bennington (Vt.) car shows.
Besides his mother, of Clarksburg, he leaves his wife, the former Linda Josephine Vitro, whom he married March 10, 1984, in North Adams; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Vitro of North Adams; a brother-in-law, Joseph Vitro of Washington; two sisters-in-law, Susan Emery of North Adams and Marianne Langlois of Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Carlow will take place Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 11 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Berkshire Humane Society through the funeral home.
