Albert N. Hardy Jr., 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Albert Nelson Hardy Jr., 84, of 8343 Black Walnut Drive, East Amherst, N.Y., formerly of North Adams, died Tuesday, May 5, 2001, at Millard Fillmore Hospital in East Amherst. Born in North Adams on Dec. 2, 1916, son of Albert N. Hardy Sr. and Ruth Hamer Hardy, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School. He also attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, graduating in 1937. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Europe and was discharged with the rank of captain. He re-enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served in Japan. Mr. Hardy was employed as a supervisor with Howard Johnson Co. for many years. He trained managers and executive chefs for the company in Buffalo, N.Y., and Chicago until his retirement in 1981. While in North Adams, he was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and its choir. He was also a member of the Church of the Advent Episcopal Church in Kenmore, N.Y. He enjoyed the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and, during his retirement, spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed swimming. His wife, the former Mildred E. Bartlett, whom he married Aug. 23, 1946, in Worthington, died June 28, 1979. He leaves three daughters, Kate Munro and Karen Hardy, both of East Amherst, and Nancy Schaller of Hinsdale, Ill.; three sons, Peter Hardy of Tampa, Fla., Scott Hardy of Phoenix and David Hardy of East Brunswick, N.J.; a sister, Jean Canedy of Hadley, 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Mr. Hardy will be Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with services at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in the family lot in North Cemetery in Worthington. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
