Kathryn A. Romeo, 83

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Kathryn A. Romeo, 83, of 13 East Ave. died Jan. 30, 2004, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a short illness. Born in North Adams on July 20, 1920, daughter of Rafael and Mary Folino Romeo, she was a graduate of Drury High School. She was trained at the former North Adams Nursing School and also completed courses in metallography at Franklin Technical Institute. She also took many courses at the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Miss Romeo was employed in the research department of the former Sprague Electric Co. as a metallographer for more than 20 years, retiring in 1990 with more than 45 years of service. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, and was a member and past president of the St. Anthony's Rosary Society. She was also a longtime member of St. Anthony's board of directors and past co-coordinator of its Confraternity of Christian Doctrine programs, and was diocesan director for the Northern Berkshire section of the CCD program for the Springfield diocese. She helped organize the annual procession for the Feast of St. Anthony each June and led the procession and was a longtime volunteer for the church's annual bazaar, where she served as ticket coordinator. Miss Romeo was a member of the board of directors for LaFesta and a member and past president of the Italian Girls Club of North Adams. She was also a member of the board of directors for the Berkshire County Republican Association, and a longtime committee member and historian for the annual Sisterhood Tea in North Adams. She was also a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club. She leaves two brothers, William R. Romeo of North Adams, with whom she resided, and Dr. Donald A. Romeo and his wife, Caryl, of East Dennis and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and nieces and nephews and their spouses, Jill Romeo and her husband, Alinon Di-Tommaso of Cape Cod, William and Jean Romeo of Sudbury, Anthony and Judy Romeo of the state of Florida, Michael and Diane McNicols of the state of Pennsylvania, and many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Romeo, Rose Ellison and Frances McNicols, and by her brothers, Ralph, Francis and Anthony Romeo. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Miss Romeo will be Monday, Feb. 2, at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshal St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Anthony's Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Feb. 1, from 4 to 7.
