Mary Adamczyk, 82

ADAMS, Mass. — Mary Adamczyk, 82, of 88 North Summer St., died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 16, 2003, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, where she was admitted Feb. 8. Born in Zamutov, Czechoslovakia, on Aug. 10, 1920, daughter of John and Victoria Betleja Michalenko, she arrived in the United States on July 1, 1921. Her parents settled in Adams and she attended St. Stanislaus' School and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1937. Mrs. Adamczyk worked for several years as a secretary for the late attorney Andrew J. Dilk and also did bookkeeping for numerous businesses, including Adams Specialty and Printing Co. She also prepared income tax returns in her home for many years. She taught Polish at the former Adams High School and did bookkeeping at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge. She also assisted in translating the diaries of Sister Mary Faustina Kowalska from Polish into English. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church, where she taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes for many years and was a member of its Rosary Sodality. She also was a member of the Polish Women's Club, the Community of the Bride of Christ, St. Michael's Society, Court Sancta Regina Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 VFW Auxiliary. She was past president and financial secretary of Group 776 and past president of Council 28 of the Polish Women's Alliance of America. Her husband, Matthew Adamczyk, whom she married Sept. 28, 1940, died in April 1976. She leaves three sons, Matthew Adamczyk and his wife, Beth, of East Falmouth, Francis Adamczyk and his wife, Patricia, of Hyde Park, and Stanley Adamczyk and his wife, Nancy, of Southboro; four daughters, Irene Lestage and her husband, Donald, of Williamstown, Ann Marie Adamczyk of Adams, Cecile Carlton and her husband, William, of Nashua, N.H., and Victoria Moulen and her husband, Alfred, of Cheshire; five brothers, the Rev. Seraphim Michalenko, MIC, of Steubenville, Ohio, Aloysius Michalenko of Adams, Joseph Michalenko of Coraopolis, Pa., John V. Michalenko Sr. of North Adams and the Rev. Alexei Michalenko of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Sister Victoria Michalenko and Sister Sophia Michalenko, both of the Community of the Mother of the God of Tenderness, Danbury, Conn.; 12 grandchildren, Stephen Adamczyk, Damiane Adamczyk, Michael Lestage, Paul Lestage, Trevor Carlton, Chad Carlton, Tracy Cusson, Todd Moulen, Kellie Carnevale, Lynne Soldato and John and Amy Adamczyk; 10 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Adamczyk, Margaux Lestage, Jenna Carlton, Kaitlyn Cusson, Lee Kohlenberger, Lauren, Sebastiana and Nickolas Carnevale, and Sage and Madison Soldato, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a son, Norbert Adamczyk in 1974, and three brothers, Adolph Michalenko in 1970, Frank Michalenko in 1981 and Ignatius Michalenko in 1997. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Adamczyk will be Thursday, Feb. 20, at 10 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a concelebrated Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, with her brothers as principal celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Members of the St. Stanislaus Rosary Sodality will meet at the funeral home at 3:45 to recite the rosary. Memorial donations may be made to the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy, Stockbridge, or to the Community of the Mother of the God of Tenderness, Danbury, Conn., through the funeral home.
