Mary P. Plankey

Mary P. Plankey, 65, of 25 Westchester Ave. died Monday at home. Born in Stockbridge on Sept. 15, 1935, daughter of the late Louie and Erma Drumm Nicholas, she attended local schools, including the former Williams High School. Mrs. Plankey was employed as a waitress at the former China Clipper Restaurant on North Street and as a cocktail waitress at the former Wendell Hotel. She later designed and painted the wall murals of the former Moby Dick Lounge in the former Allen Hotel. An artist, she enjoyed drawing, painting and doing wall murals. She also enjoyed sewing and other handcrafts. She leaves her husband of 47 years, Robert J. Plankey, whom she married Jan. 16, 1954; four sons, Robert J. Plankey Jr. of Pittsfield, Steven M. Plankey of Adams, Alan J. Plankey of Otis and David P. Plankey of Middlefield; three daughters, Karen M. Nadolski of Palmer, and Laura J. Madden and Diane F. Plankey, both of Pittsfield; two brothers, Robert Nicholas and Donald Nicholas, both of Lee; a sister, Lois Saltarelli of Lenox; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Private funeral services were held Wednesday at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or HospiceCare in care of the funeral home.
