John C. Prenguber, 77

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — John C. Prenguber, 77, of 62 Sadler Ave. died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where he had been admitted July 25. Born in North Adams on Sept. 12, 1924, son of Ignazio and Viola Crosina Prenguber, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1942. He also attended the former Bliss Business College and graduated from Becker Junior College in Worcester in 1948 with an associate's degree in accounting. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a technician fifth grade in central Europe. He received the European Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Prenguber was employed by GE from 1948 until retiring Jan. 1, 1985, from the cost accounting department of the former power transformer division. He was a communicant of St. Mary the Morning Star Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs and the General Electric Athletic Association. He was also a member of American Legion Post 68, and enjoyed hunting. His wife, the former Therese M. Richard, whom he married Sept. 3, 1949, at Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur in North Adams, died July 15, 1999. He leaves two sons, John R. Prenguber of Orlando, Fla., and David M. Prenguber of Pittsfield; two daughters, Marcia A. Prenguber of Goshen, Ind., and Cindy M. Prenguber of Narragansett, R.I.; two sisters, Ida B. Barber of Adams and Barbara V. Keating of Zephyrhills, Fla., and seven grandchildren. His sister Catherine I. Prenguber died Sept. 27, 1998. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Prenguber will be Friday, Aug. 9, at 9 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary the Morning Star Church in Pittsfield, celebrated by the Rev. Paul A. Bombardier, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nature Conservancy in care of the funeral home.
