Dorothy Martel Moody, 86

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Dorothy Evelyn Martel Moody, 86, of 86 Nutmeg Lane died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Bennington (Vt.) Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in North Adams on Sept. 24, 1915, daughter of Joseph T. and Violet Lamphier Wiles, she attended schools in Williamstown and was a 1933 graduate of the former Williamstown High School. Mrs. Moody was employed by Williams College as secretary to the director of the alumni office and later as assistant to the comptroller, retiring in 1979. Prior to that, she worked at the former General Cable Co. and then as business manager for Buxton School. After retiring, she worked part time as a bookkeeper at the Taconic Golf Club. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and, for many years, of its Altar Guild. She volunteered at the Women's Exchange and was a member the ladies' auxiliaries of Richard A. Ruether Post 152 American Legion and of Post 90 American Legion in Pownal, Vt. She was an active member of the Masonic Order of Eastern Star 137 Mountain Chapter and was a former worthy matron. Her first husband, Ralph William Martel, whom she married Nov. 9, 1946 in Williamstown, died Jan. 20, 1981. Her husband, Willard Moody, died in 1999. She leaves a daughter, Kathleen Ann LaCosse of Williamstown; three sons, Ralph W. Martel Jr. of Manhattan, Bruce J. Martel of Pownal and Keith F. Martel of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a sister, Myrtle Geist of Williamstown, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, George Wiles, Frank Wiles Sr. and Mary Maxon. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Moody will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector. Burial will follow in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, will be Tuesday from 5 to 8. Memorial donations are suggested for Shriners' Children's Hospital through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
