Francis P. 'Pat' Cariddi

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Francis P. "Pat" Cariddi, 69, of 117 Church St. died Thursday evening, July 11, 2002, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he was admitted June 17 after a long battle with cancer. He was a longtime member of the Northern Berkshire civic and business community. Born in North Adams on Nov. 2, 1932, son of Frank and Antoinette Scida Cariddi, he was a 1952 graduate of Drury High School. He was a 20-year veteran of the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Cariddi was employed in the family business, Cariddi Sales Co., as sales manager and buyer until his retirement in 1995. He also owned and operated Sofspra Car Wash on Curran Highway for 30 years. Following his retirement in 1995, he owned and operated Cariddi Enterprise as a flea market business until April. In January 1969, he was appointed to a five-year term with the North Adams Redevelopment Authority by then Gov. John A. Volpe and re-appointed to a five-year term in 1974 by then Gov. Francis W. Sargent. He also served as treasurer of the Redevelopment Authority and completed his term of office in 1979. In January 1978, he was appointed to a 15-month term on the Northern Berkshire Industrial Commission by then Mayor Richard C. Lamb. Mr. Cariddi was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the Republican City Committee, the Berkshire County Republican Association, North Adams Lodge 704 Sons of Italy and the North Adams Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 487. He also was a member of the North Adams Retired Men's Club and its golf club, and a member and officer of the Toy Wholesalers Association of America, attending their annual conference nationwide for more than 40 years. He was honored as Republican of the Year. He traveled extensively in his business work and for pleasure. During the winter months, he resided in Fort Pierce, Fla. His wife, the former MaryLou Carr, whom he married April 12, 1958, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., died Jan. 31, 1996. He leaves three sons, Guy R. and Patrick F. Cariddi, both of North Adams, and Daniel D. Cariddi of Roseville, Calif.; six sisters, Ann DeMeo and JoAnn Maselli, both of North Adams, Mary Bergeron of Greenfield, Jennie Tomasi of Schenectady, N.Y., Catherine Mogavero of Pittsfield and Frances Brown of Cranford, N.J.; two brothers, Joseph Cariddi and James V. Cariddi Sr., both of North Adams, and four grandchildren. Predeceased by three brothers, Patrick Cariddi in 1926, Dominic Cariddi in April 1942 and Ralph Cariddi in October 1989. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Cariddi will be Monday, July 15, at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., Route 2, North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony Parish Center with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor, officiating. Burial in the Cariddi Family plot at Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, July 14, 2002, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations suggested for the MaryLou Cariddi Memorial Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
