William S. Caprari, 99
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — William Silvio Caprari, 99, of Furnace Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
Born in the town of Florida on Dec. 1, 1916, son of Isidoro and Luigia DePaoli Caprari, he graduated from Drury High School.
A Army veteran of World War II, he served in Burma as part of the famed Merrill's Marauders, which penetrated deep behind enemy lines.
Mr. Caprari was employed by the Massachusetts Highway Department for many years, until his retirement in 1981.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Mr. Caprari was devoted to his family and enjoyed family gatherings.
His wife, the former Mary Doris Benoit, died on June 10, 1985.
He leaves a son, William J. Caprari of North Adams; three granddaughters, Coleen Fisher of Tampa, Fla., Trista Noelle Kowak of Cheshire and Kacey Elizabeth Caprari of North Adams; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Elizabeth, Landon and Cindy, and nieces and nephews including his devoted niece and caregiver, Jeannie M.
Six brothers and sisters are deceased including Jennie Rossi, Nina Buckley, Lillian Fenton, and Lawrence, Olympio and Aldo Caprari.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Caprari will be Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will be in the spring in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to World Vision Inc. in care of the funeral home.
