Lilla R. Dickinson, 92

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Lilla Ruth Dickinson, 92, of 80 Porter St., lately of Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, died peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, surrounded by her family. Born in North Adams on March 13, 1921, daughter of Archer and Jessie Latimer Jones, she attended school in North Adams. Mrs. Dickinson was a longtime employee of Excelsior Printing Co., transferring to Excelsior Process and Engraving, which eventually merged with Crane & Co., where she worked for many years as a supervisor in the Inspection Department. She was promoted to the position of assistant plant manager in 1979. She was very proud of her role as safety director for the company as she had always aspired to be a nurse. She retired in 1988 after more than 29 years of service. She loved traveling and spending time with family and her beloved pets. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed feeding and observing birds. She was a member of the Clarksburg Council on Aging and spent many pleasant hours enjoying the activities there. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Her husband, Edmund A. Dickinson, whom she married on May 1, 1943, died on April 25, 1999. She leaves survived by her two sons, Gary E. Dickinson and his wife, Paula of Burke, Va., and Dennis A. Dickinson and his, wife Rosemari, of North Adams; three daughters, Carol E. Sorel and her husband, John, of Fairfield, Conn., Valerie Dickinson of Stamford, Vt., and Wendy Dickinson and her husband, Robert Guettler, of North Adams; six grandchildren, Edmund G. Dickinson of Woodbridge, Va., Dennis A. Dickinson Jr. and his wife, Ali, of Marblehead, Renee A. Sorel Moore and John D. Sorel and his wife, Allison, all of Monroe, Conn., Justin M. Dickinson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Thomas Guettler of North Adams, five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Dickinson was predeceased by her two sisters, Edna Burdick and Mildred Tatro, and her brothers Archer Jones Jr. and Harold Jones, who died in childhood. FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Mrs. Dickinson will be held Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. from All Saints Episcopal Church on Summer Street in North Adams. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday July 2, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society on Barker Road in Pittsfield through the funeral home.
