John W. McHaffie, 86
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John Whitehill McHaffie, 86, of 400 Barbour St. died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hawley on Sept. 2, 1926, a son of John and Viola Albe McHaffie, he was educated at Charlemont High School.
A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines.
Mr. McHaffie was employed for many years with the U.S. Postal Service in Pittsfield, retiring in 1987.
He was an avid bowler and fisherman. He was a member of the North Adams American Legion Post 125 and was very active in the retirement community.
He leaves his wife, the former Yvonne Babeu Knights; two stepdaughters, Bonnie Lee Pitroff and Laurie Ann Knights; a stepson, James A. Knights and his wife, Christine; a sister, Isabella Ross of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Kristen Pitroff, Gina and Lauren Lopez, Brendon, Cameron and Kara Knights, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother and four sisters: William McHaffie, Clara Jepson, Grace Clark, Ruth Fitzroy and Elizabeth Zoito.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. McHaffie will take place Tuesday, June 24, at 11:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, donations are suggested through the funeral home for VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire for their heartfelt services through the funeral home.
