Mary Celentano, 90

CHESHIRE, Mass. —  Mrs. Mary L. (Presz) Celentano, 90, of Cheshire, formerly of Springfield, died on Saturday, December 14, 2019, surrounded by her family at Craneville Place Nursing Home in Dalton.

She was born in Wilbraham on September 20, 1929, a daughter of the late Nicolas and Rosalia (Garbcz) Presz. She attended schools in Springfield, including Immaculate Conception School, and took college courses at Pratt Institute School of Design in New York City.

Mrs. Celentano worked for many years as a fashion designer and seamstress in her own shop as well as other dress shops. Later in life she worked as a home health aide until her retirement.

She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire. She loved taking trips to Cape Cod and bird watching and was a member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosalie Girard and her husband William of Cheshire; two sons, Louis Celentano and his wife Elizabeth of Adams and Francis Celentano of Lanesborough; eight grandchildren, Kat, Daniel, Luke and Alyssa Celentano and Corin Lee, Carlin and Robin Girard and Mary Rose Gerrard; four great-grandchildren, Astoria, Erolyn, Landon and Callie Rose; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Celenato; her son, Edward Celentano; and by her nine siblings, Joseph, Walter, Steven, Bronislaw, Theodore, Helen, Stella, Edward and John.

Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 20, 2019, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 191 Church St., Cheshire, MA 01225, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will be private at a later date.

Calling hours are Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society, 208 South Great Rd., Lincoln, MA 01773. The PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary was one of my mothers when ever I returned to the Berkshires. I loved her Rosalie and I will always miss her. She was beautiful in every way. Love Terry
