Elizabeth C. Ohly, 88, of 25 Pine Hill, Kimball Farms, 235 Walker St., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on July 15, 1912, daughter of Frederick I. and Anna Menken Congleton, she was a 1929 graduate of Scarsdale (N.Y.) High School. She also graduated from Wellesley College with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts, majoring in art history.
Mrs. Ohly was employed as a teacher in private girls' secondary schools from 1933 to 1936. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1940 and to Williamstown in 1985. In 1990, she moved to Lenox.
While in Washington, she served on the board of the Foreign Student Service Council and with the Red Cross during World War II.
She also maintained a second home in Killington, Vt., where she served as an adviser to the Planning Board and was supportive of the Vermont Land Trust and the Appalachian Trail.
Her husband, John H. Ohly, whom she married Aug. 9, 1937, died Sept. 9, 1990.
She leaves three sons, Nicholas D. Ohly of New Haven, Conn., John H. Ohly Jr. of Rehoboth and Frederick C. Ohly of McLean, Va., and five grandchildren.
A memorial service for Elizabeth Congleton Ohly will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Among survivors are her grandchildren, Christina Ohly Evans of Boston, Jessica B. Ohly and John C. Ohly of McLean, and Derek W. Ohly and Jack H. Ohly of New Haven, Conn.
