Ethel E. Hitchcock, 90
SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Ethel E. Hitchcock, 90, of Home Road died Monday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.Born in Sheffield on Aug. 4, 1919, one of nine children of John and Lovina Bailey Markham, she attended local schools, including the former Brush Hill School.
Mrs. Hitchcock was a marvelous baker. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and working on crossword puzzles.
Her husband, Francis Hitchcock Sr., whom she married on Feb. 21, 1939, in Sheffield, died in 2007.
She leaves her son, Thomas M. Hitchcock of Sheffield; a sister, Leona Brazee of Sheffield; two granddaughters, Susan Crane and her husband, Gary, and Lisa Gomez and her husband, Greg, all of Sheffield; three great-grandchildren, Tom Clark, Nick and Alex Crane. and her daughter-in-law Betty Ann Hitchcock.
She was predeceased by another son, Francis Hitchcock Jr. in August, her daughter-in-law Victoria Hitchcock and seven brothers and sisters, including William Markham and Luella DeLand.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services celebrating the life Mrs. Hitchcock will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. Jill Graham. Burial will follow in Sheffield Center Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
