NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ellen Elizabeth McCarthy, 98, formerly of 1611 State Road died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Adams on April 14, 1911, a daughter of Arthur and Marion Harrington McCarthy, she attended Drury High School.
Miss McCarthy was employed by the former General Cable Co. in Pownal, Vt., retiring in 1976. She had earlier worked in the former textile cotton mills in Williamstown and for several years at the former Sprague Electric Co.
She enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
She leaves a sister, Marion Duncan of Williamstown; a brother, Robert P. McCarthy of North Adams, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Ruth McCarthy and Florence Scaia and brothers Walter, Carleton, Gerald and James McCarthy.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Miss McCarthy will take place Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 1 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Activities Fund at Williamstown Commons through the funeral home.
