Walter F. Pringle Jr., 85
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Walter Francis Pringle Jr., 85, of 176 Ashton Ave. died Friday, July 17, 2009, at Comstock Manor in Chandler, Ariz.Born in North Adams on Jan. 28, 1924, son of Walter F. Pringle Sr. and Elizabeth Fallon Pringle, he attended city schools and graduated from the former Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox. He attended Holy Cross College and received a degree from the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Pringle was a funeral director for many years, operating the former Pringle Funeral Home on East Main Street, which was established by his late father. He was last employed at the former Jaeger House Restaurant in Pownal, Vt., for 13 years.
He was a well-known and excellent golfer in the area. At one time, he was a member of the North Adams Country Club, Forest Park Country Club, Waubeeka Golf Links and Taconic Golf Club and had been a club champion at Taconic, Waubeeka and North Adams. He competed in many area golf tournaments and once played in the Brazilian Open.
He leaves his wife, the former Julia Smith, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1986, and several nieces.
He was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth Bianco and Eileen Siciliano.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral to celebrate the life of Mr. Pringle will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. There will be no calling hours.
