Richard F. Davies, 69
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Richard F. "Red" Davies, 69, of 655 East Main St. Ext. died Friday, July 17, 2009, at home.Born in North Adams on Nov. 4, 1939, a son of Frank Davies and Blanche Beaudoin Davies Davignon, he graduated from Drury High School and was an accomplished baseball pitcher. He also attended Norwich University.
He was a veteran of the Air Force, serving in Greenland and Japan.
Mr. Davies was employed for many years with U.S. Postal Service in North Adams, retiring to care for his late wife, the former Cynthia Dianne Rand.
He was a member of Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His wife, whom he married Feb. 1, 1969, died Aug. 27, 2004.
He leaves his son, Matthew Davies of Ohio, and stepson, Walter Dupell of North Adams; a brother, Alan Davignon and his wife, Denise, of Seattle; a grandson, Cooper Davies, and his nephew and niece, John Shields Jr. and Susan Shields.
He was predeceased by a sister, Madaliene Shields, and another brother, Robert Davies.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services Mr. Davies will take place Thursday, July 23, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adam. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery.
