Alice G. Kawa, 83
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Alice Grace Kawa, 83, of 43 Navajo Drive died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.Born in North Adams on April 21, 1926, daughter of Joseph and Alice Moreau Allard, she attended city schools, including Drury High School.
Mrs. Kawa was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for more than 25 years. Following her retirement, she worked at Stop & Shop Supermarket.
She was a communicant of the former Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church and was a member of its choir and bingo committee. She enjoyed music and playing the piano and, in her younger years, performed in minstrel shows. She enjoyed bowling and especially spending time with family and friends.
Her husband, John "Jake" Kawa, whom she married May 3, 1947, died in 1960.
She leaves two sons, John J. Kawa of North Adams and Dennis J. Kawa of Agawam; two brothers, Rolland Allard of Denver and Joseph Allard of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a grandson, Todd Kawa, two great-grandchildren,Brianna Briggs and Alyssa Stowers, and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter April Briggs, three brothers and six sisters, including Rita Moreau, Claire Rondeau and Theresa Lamoureux.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Kawa will be celebrated Friday, July 17, 2009, at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams.
