Donald G. DeGrenier, 67

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Donald G. DeGrenier, 67, of 41 Canedy Lane died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at home, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

Born in North Adams on July 19, 1941, son of George and Mary Mould DeGrenier, he attended city schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1959.

A decorated Navy veteran, he specialized as an electronics technician.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and a member of Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post 125.

An ethical sportsman who loved to hunt and fish with family and friends, his passion was live-bait fishing in the Finger Lakes with his son and grandsons. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, the former Carol Whitehead. He loved to read, listen to the oldies music and watch sports, especially the Red Sox. His children said he was their hero.

He and his wife were married Sept. 28, 1963, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Allentown, Pa.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Nicole Steiger and her husband, Adam, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Jeffrey DeGrenier and his wife, Jessica, of Oswego, N.Y.; three brothers, Dennis DeGrenier of Alabama, Lawrence DeGrenier of Bradford and Wayne DeGrenier of Turners Falls, and four grandchildren, Justin DeGrenier, Brett DeGrenier, Jake Steiger and Elianna Steiger.
